The Kyoto tourist central area history

After a red line was abolished, some Ryokan (Japanese style house) has changed their business from pleasure house to foreigner's guest house.
So many foreigner are living in this area thanks to that reason today. Some service places like cafe has begun to open gradually too.
There are enough environment where a foreigner stays, beautiful old street and convenient location.
This place has became the foreigner tourist's and long stayer's central area now.

History
- History of this area -

This area is called "Gojo Rakuen" from Kyoto people since more than 300years ago. "Rakuen" originally means a "Paradise", but in here, that means "Red light district". This place has prospered from the Edo era latter period (AC,17) to the Showa early days (AC,20) as the pleasure quarters for commoner of Kyoto.
But after a red line was abolished, here declined. Business owneres has closed their business and left from here. Only Kyoto traditional houses that used to presure is staying here until now. Most of houses are reconstructed and preserved but still a reminder of 300 years ago.
